Where to Stay

For the golfers who want to mix social life and golf, the costal towns to the south west of the island are the most popular. About 20 minutes drive from the airport, they are easy to access.

The three main areas are:

  • Portal Nous
  • Palmanova
  • Magaluf

Portal Nous.

Portal Nous is a marina with a number of restaurants and a few bars overlooking the seafront. Up the hill on the main road there are also a number of good restaurants and bars. The town is situated in the Bay of Palma between the city and Palmanova and Magaluf which are 2 miles to the west.

Most of our golfers stay in the four star Hotel Portal Nous, a large hotel built in the 7Os',  its not the most pretty buildings and the rooms are now a little dated, but the facilities are excellent. There is a nice outdoor pool area with bar, and an indoor pool. Access to the golf courses is excellent and the hotel receptions are very good with groups of golfers. The clientele is a mix of northern Europeans.

Outside the hotel there are a number of bars The ship and the Irish Rover being the two most popular British bars,Flinstones is also a popular bar come eating place, Spanish run but with a mixed clientle.

The port is a five minute walk down the hill or a short taxi drive. There area has a number of good restaurants and its is advisable to book in advance. Bars are limited with a couple of small German places on the front, and a lounge bar on the first floor of the entrance that gets busier later on. A good option after dinner is to get a cab into near by Palmanova or Magaluf where bars and clubs are not in short supply. The Intercontinental restaurant in front of the hotel does not look much from the outside but the food is great and much cheaper than the equivalent down on the port, Lamb and steaks are excellent, though being Spanish. If you like your meat well done make sure you tell them, as it is usually served quite rare. The wines are good, and for about 15 euros you can try some of the local wines,

Places to Eat in Portal Nous

Intercontinental

In front of the Hotel Portal Nous, this local run places offer a great menu, with large portions. Try the iberico cured ham to start. The kitchen does a great leg of lamb and excellent steaks. If you like fish try the paella dishes.
Finish with a good Spanish coffee and a patcharan.

Flanigans

Palmanova/Magaluf

The towns have now merged together with Palmanova being a bit more upmarket than Magaluf. Known for it Brits abroad culture in various TV docs, it does not disappoint. Although we have not been there in August it is easy to imagine the town partying away 24 hours a day. The location is set up for groups who want a long weekend on the lash and to have a bit of  time to recuperate by fitting in a few games of golf.

Palma

The capital city of Mallorca, Palma is getting more and more popular for long weekend destinations. A number of boutique hotels, good restaurants and museums makes it a good place to mix a bit of golf and culture. Its more set up for small groups or couples who want to play a bit of golf and have a look around the city.

Alcudia

Alcudia is situated to the North east of the island and is a good location for playing some of the better courses on the island. It has a large marina and numerous bars and restaurants, though it is much more family orientated that the costal towns of Magaluf  Portal Nous.
