DERCRIPTION
The course is on the outskirts of the costal town of Santa Ponsa and is well signed posted as you drive into the town. Good location close to the resorts of Portal Nous and Magaluf
The 10th hole is one of the longest in Europe. This is a long, wide course with many indigenous trees, vegetation, water obstacles and bunkers.
The course is quite flat and offers a good challenge for golfers of all levels. Ideal for groups that want to combine the social side with a good if not demanding round.
There are no drinks buggies but there is a bar that makes for a good stopping point halfway around.
Santa Ponsa I is one of Mallorca's most active courses and many national and international tournaments take place here including the Professional Spanish Championship Match between Spain and Belgium, the Spanish international amateurs championship, Club championship of Europeampeonato, International Challenge H.R.H. the Count of Barcelona (from 1977 'til 1992), International trophy H.R.H. Don Juan de Borbon (from 1994 'til today), International trophy H.R.H. Princess Birgitta of Sweden (from 1991 'til today), The Mentor Foundation Trophy 1998. The course was selected for the P.G.A. European Tour’s Balaeric Open six times. The winners were: 1988: Seve Ballesteros. 1989: Ove Sellberg. 1991: Gavin Levenson. 1992: Seve Ballesteros. 1993: Jim Payne (Golf II). 1995: Greg J. Turner. 1998: Miguel Angel Jimene
COURSE FACILITIES:
The course has its own 4 star hotel .
The club house is spacious though has a slight retro feel to it. The club terrace looks out onto the hotel pool. The pro shop and changing rooms are downstairs when you enter the club house. Although clean the changing rooms are a bit tired.
Driving range - the course has a good grass driving range close to the club house for warming up. Buy the tokens for the driving range in club house.
COURSE REVIEW
Hole 1 Par 4
Nice easy shot to get you away on quite a long par 4. Bunkers to the left of green but otherwise not much danger
Hole 2 Par 5
Dogleg right with a fairway bunker to catch anything to long, a stream runs on the right, all the way down the fairway.
Approach difficult with water at the front and bunker left and right. Make sure you give yourself enough clubs.
Hole 3 Par 3
Short par 3, quite straightforward from the tee. No trouble at front but deep pot bunkers to the sides and scrub at the back.
Hole 4 Par 4
Dogleg to the left. Bunkers to the left of landing zone but a good drive will clear these, if you want to set yourself up for a short iron in to the green. From the corner of the dogleg it is a long iron into a green protected by bunkers
Hole 5 Par 4.
Nice driving hole with a good landing area, second is a long iron or fairway wood. Bunkers front and right, no trouble at the back.
Hole 6 Par 5 440 meters
Short par 5 with a slight dogleg to the left , not to difficult a hole
Hole 7 Par 3
Short but with water to the left and trees to the right, a lot of space at the back if you want to take out the danger.
Hole 8 Par 4 360 meters
Straight with a good landing area, but don't be deceived, a good tee shot is needed to allow a short iron for your second shot to a elevated
tee with bunkers on both sides
Hole 9 par 4
Good space off tee for the drive. Second is into a elevated green protected by lateral bunkers
Hole 10th Par 5
Easy tee shot. Make sure your long enough with the second shot. Water runs across the fairway from about 80 meters out on the approach.
Target is quite a large green
Hole 11th Par 4
Straight forward tee shot and a medium iron up hill should get you to a large green in two. Front a lateral bunkers protect the green but there is
little trouble at the rear.
Hole 12 Par 3
Long par 3 to a elevated two tiered green protected by deep front bunkers, very difficult shot to hit the green
Hole 13th Par 5
Little danger if you get a good drive off, slight dogleg to the right but reachable in two for big hitters, a few bunkers around the green could catch a miss hit ball
but they are not to near the green.
Hole 14 Par 4 330 meters
Straight tee shot. Approach is to a green protected by a few bunkers. A good drive should set you up for an easy par.
Hole 15 Par 3 155 meters
Quiet straight forward approach, bunkers to front sides, take the trouble out with a extra club as there is no traps at the rear.
Hole 16 Par 4
Dogleg to the right with water at the front, though a good drive will get you over the hazard. Critical to hit the landing zone on this one if you want to attack
the green on your second. Second in is a long iron or fairway wood with water at the front and a bunker to the left. A large green to hit.
Hole 17 Par 4 300 meters
Short par 4 that dogs to the left, protected by two front bunkers and one to the right hand side of a small green. A good drive cutting off the corner will leave a
small wedge into the green.
Hole 18 Par 4 390 meters
Dogleg right. This is a nice finishing hole with a wide fairway and a bunker to the right. A long drive is needed to reach the green in two which is well protected by
bunkers. Difficult par if you’re thinking of getting a few points back on the last.
